i’ve recently downgraded to an older mobile phone after my present one died on me. i’ve always taken photos on my phone and only now realised/remembered what those first generation nokia camera phones were like. in terms of quality, its pretty low. but in terms of asthetic, there is something very intriguing about the photos they take. its reminicesnt of early film cameras, espcially the 110 cartridge type and polaroids.
advances in technology or making something “perfect” alot of the time can be counter productive. i suppose its totally dependant on the user’s required use of a product. in the case of photography, is it totally neccesary to have an exact replica of a situation or better to have an image that lends atmosphere to the scene? the way the light diffuses and the camera trys to correct colours on the old nokia phones gives the photos an almost ethereal quality.
